There is no single best faction. Compare equipment technology, barter access, story route, enemy danger, station position, reputation, and your build; then support one or two priorities while monitoring the wider balance.

Factions are an economy and an enemy roster
Stations and completed missions change Power and Technology over time. Sabotage, espionage, elimination, conquest, and defense push those values in different directions.
The Stock Exchange exposes faction characteristics and market information, so faction choice should consider both the gear you want and the opponents you are prepared to fight.
Questions to ask before taking a side
- Which equipment and damage types does the faction provide?
- Which enemies will become more common or powerful?
- Does the faction open a story route you want to see?
- Will the contract destroy valuable barter credit elsewhere?
- Do you want one dominant ally or a profitable balance of power?
